I know everyone feels me when I say, “I’m READY for Spring, y’all!” One of my favorite things about my adopted city of Atlanta is that we actually have Spring here, unlike my native state of Wisconsin where there’s usually snow on the ground this time of year. Even though our winter here in the A isn’t too bad, I’m anxiously awaiting Springtime festival season!
This year, I’m excited to check out the fourth annual Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival on March 24th and March 25th. It will be my first time attending the festival, so I’m excited to check it out. There is literally something for everyone – couples and singles, children and adults (including those of us that are adults, but like to take the weekends off from adulting, #guilty). Plus, the event is dog-friendly!
And, when I say that the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival has something for everyone, I’m not kidding.
If you’re into arts and crafts, you’ll be in heaven. The Festival hosts over 100 local artists who specialize in jewelry-making, glasswork, folk art, and photography. I’m particularly excited about shopping for some handmade jewelry to spruce up my spring wardrobe. If you’re a motorhead, you’ll love the Classic Car show, and kids will love the Kidz Zone.
My husband is a big runner so he’s excited about the 5K on Saturday morning. The race is a Peachtree Qualifier and benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. If you’re not a runner, you can do the 1K walk (which is more my speed)! I love that race is dog and stroller friendly. If your pooch isn’t too tired from racing, he can participate in the Pet Parade on Sunday (lineup begins at 1:30pm) – I *die* over pets in costumes, so a whole parade of them is going to be cuteness overload. After the parade, I’ll be headed straight to the food court to check out the assortment of delectable edibles – corndogs are one of my guilty pleasures!
All the things I’ve already mentioned sound amazing, but my favorite part of any festival is the live music. This year the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival has a super impressive lineup, including two of my faves, Keith Anderson and Edwin McCain. (It’s going to be tough to stop singing “I’ll Be” at the top of my lungs all weekend, but I’ll try my best so that my friends can leave their earplugs at home). The festival stage is nestled into the natural forest landscape of Blackburn Park, a perfect backdrop for Keith Anderson’s “Pickin’ Wildflowers” hit. The shows kicks off at 2:00pm on Saturday and 1:00pm on Sunday, culminating with Craig Morgan and Five for Fighting, respectively.
In case my excitement distracted you, here’s a recap of the festivals essential info:
