If you guys saw my blog post a few weeks about the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, you know that I was super excited to experience the festival for myself on March 24th. (You can click here to read the post if you missed it).
How was it?
This list of 5 awesome things about the festival pretty much sums it up:
Shopping, shopping and more shopping.
I knew that the festival had an artisan market (and I was looking forward to splurging on some new hand-made jewelry), but I had no idea just how much shopping I would be able to do. I followed the signs to the artisan market and when I turned the corner and it came into my line of sight, my jaw dropped. The tents filled with vendors went as far as I could see! (Yassssssssss)!
Awesome live music.
If I had to choose my favorite thing about the festival it would probably be the live music. I experienced Saturday’s stellar line-up which included country stars Keith Anderson and Craig Morgan. Keith opened with his toe-tapping hit “Pickin’ Wildflowers” and had a stellar set, but I found myself most surprised by Craig’s headliner performance – he performed a super fun mash-up of covers from all genres of music (including rap)!
A TON of cute puppies!
You know what else was awesome about the festival? All the cute puppies. There were puppies everywhere – I was in heaven! I loved that the festival had dog-specific vendors (because who doesn’t love spoiling their furry bestie?) and had fun watching the agility demonstrations.
And, parrots too (who would have thought)?
I prepared myself for puppy-cuteness-overload, but they weren’t the only animals at the event – there was also some pretty cool exotic birds. (I found myself fascinated by them and watched them for at least 20 minutes).
Super delicious food.
Festival food… umm, yum! It was hard for me to decide what to eat because there were so many options that looked delicious. Ultimately, I decided to channel the ‘land of alright’ and order some Jamaican jerk chicken. When I got to the front of the line and it was my turn to order, I changed my mind last minute and went with the Jamaican mixed platter. O-M-G, y’all. The platter (pictured above) could have fed a family of four.
Was it delicious? You betcha.
Did I regret it? Heck no! Luckily, I had friends to share with.
It’s safe to say that I had a great time at the festival – there truly was something for everyone, but I wanted to share some of my personal favorites with you. I definitely plan to make attending the festival an annual spring tradition. If you want to do the same, check out Brookhaven’s website and keep an eye out for next year’s festival dates.
