Bec 2

Let’s start with an easy question – tell me about yourself and your blog.

I am Rebecca Clipsham, a 24-year-old Primary School Teacher from Sydney, Australia with a severe case of wanderlust. I am the writer and the creator of the travel blog, ‘The World As Bec Sees It’ sharing my travel adventures, stories and tips from all over the globe! My travel blog showcases unique and authentic travel experiences, and in addition, encourages and inspires travellers to work in a profession or career they are passionate about, and still find time to travel the world. I am a believer in having your cake and eating it too, you CAN have the best of both worlds. With four continents and thirty countries under my belt as of 2014, I plan to work in my job as a primary school teacher, and explore as much of the world as I possibly can.

What’s your favorite UNESCO world heritage site?

My favourite UNESCO world heritage site would have to be the Acropolis mountain in Athens, Greece. It is the famous Parthenon on top of the Acropolis which attracts tourists from all over the world. In 37 degree heat, with bucket-loads of sweat dripping off me, I walked up to the top of the Acropolis mountain to see the famous Parthenon and the view was totally worth it! The Parthenon itself stands as a true iconic and historical landmark in Greece.

Why do you travel?

I travel because there is a big world out there worth exploring. From the very first time I travelled overseas, I knew that it would not be the last. Each and every time I step foot onto a new destination, or I engage in a new and out-of-my-comfort-zone travel adventure or experience, my heart is taken on a journey. I am continually surprised and amazed by the wonders of this world, and in addition I am discovering and exploring who I am, which inevitably encourages me to explore beyond what I know and what I think I know about life, love and most importantly, travel.

What are your top 3 essential travel items?

My top three essential travel items would have to be my passport, my camera and my laptop!

What is your favorite “off the beaten path” destination?

My favorite “off the beaten path” destination that I have been to would have to be Zanzibar. Zanzibar is an island off the mainland of Tanzania in Africa, and although it is not listed as a country, you are still required to show your passport and get it stamped! Zanzibar is a beautiful tropical destination, well known around the world for its beautiful and enchanting beaches, and also for its rich history.

How about your most awkward travel moment?

My most awkward travel moment would have to be when I was travelling through Africa and we stopped at Lake Malawi for a few days. One night in particular my tour friends and I were dancing on top of the bar, having a good time, and as the night went on I found myself walking very quickly (and swiftly!) from one end of the bar to the other in an attempt to avoid some frisky Africans who wanted to pull me aside and have a “dance” with me; I say “dance” in inverted commas as it probably would not have been any kind of dance, it would have more of the grinding kind which would eventually lead to something more if I had agreed to it!

What has been your most memorable travel moment?

One of my most memorable travel moments, and which still tops it on my list of incredible experiences was my very first encounter with an African elephant in Zambia. I went on my very first elephant-back safari where you ride on the elephants, and afterwards (my favorite part!) you are able to interact with your elephant on a more personal level which for me involved feeding him and sitting on his knee! It is the experience of a lifetime that I would highly recommend to any traveller.

Here’s a question most travelers hate, but reader love: What’s your top 3 “favorite” travel destinations (if you’re absolutely forced to choose)?

This is a question I am frequently asked, but if I absolutely had to choose, my top three favorite travel destinations are: (1) Santorini, Greece: One of the most beautiful and well-known islands in the world! The views and scenery are spectacular, the food is delicious and the people are so heart warming! Greece is by far my favorite country in the world and anywhere in Greece is guaranteed to be amazing.  (2) Salzburg, Austria: I am in love with the movie The Sound of Music, and Salzburg is one of the most beautiful and enchanting cities I have ever seen! Definitely worth it to spend at least three days there on your first visit!  (3) New Orleans, USA: Being a musician I LOVE the live music culture and atmosphere in New Orleans, especially jazz and blues music.

Do you have a travel tip or pearl of wisdom to impart upon my readers?

My advice to you is just to choose a place you are passionate about and just GO, now is the time to make travel and exploring this beautiful world a priority.
